Jonathan "Jonno" Smith

Jonathan "Jonno" Smith was a former director of Mirfield Drum & Bugle Corps and later a regular and valued visual instructor with Concord Drum & Bugle Corps in Sheffield.

It is 10 years ago today (30th January 2003) that we lost Jonno after a short battle with cancer at the unbelievably young age of 39. Those who knew him will never forget his constant good humour, his loyalty and dedication to the activity that he loved and to the youngsters that he taught. There are few remaining in Concord that knew Jonno personally - but every single one of our members, staff and supporters, past and present, know of him. His photograph hangs in a prominent position in our headquartes and all new members are told of his service and the loss that we all still feel today.

On this poignant anniversary we ask that all of you who knew him spare just a few minutes remembering his contribution to our lives and the inspiration he gave to countless people in our activity. With the agreement of his family, during 2013 Concord Youth Music will dedicate each of our performances to his memory. We will also be helping to raise funds for Macmillan Nurses who took such good care of Jonno in his final days. If you can, please join us in making a donation to this very dedicated group of carers or to any cancer research or care charity in his memory.

Should anyone out there have any special memories of Jonno that you would like to share with us we would be pleased to hear from you via the Concord FaceBook page.
