Information for Parents

Thank you for your interest in our group. You obviously have a desire to help your children along the satisfying journey that music-making can provide.

In addition to the musical rewards gained through learning to play an instrument, there are many fringe benefits in the development of personal confidence and self-esteem. Making music also helps to improve numeracy, self-expression and decision-making in addition to learning to work co-operatively and for a common aim. These benefits are recognised by many in the academic world as offering a greater educational advantage to those involved in learning and performing music.

Sheffield Music Service recognises the work we do at Concord AllStars as being of value in furthering the development of young people’s musical experiences. We work in co-operation with Sheffield Music Service – our activities complement each other.

Concord AllStars is part of an independent youth organisation with 25 years experience in offering young people aged 8 to 12 years the opportunity to carry out their music-making on brass and percussion instruments through the medium of a marching band. We provide a free instrument on loan (which can be taken home for personal practise), free instruction from experienced, CRB-checked instructors and a weekly membership subscription of just £2.00. There are no joining fees, deposits or extra costs.

Rehearsals are held in a local church hall each Saturday morning from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon and a series of public performance opportunities are undertaken throughout the year.

We invite you to bring your children and their friends along to one of our regular rehearsals to see the activities under way and to meet the people involved.

Please call us on: 0114 249 1460 (leave a message on the answering machine if necessary – we’ll respond the same day) or email : rcs@concord.org.uk and we’ll give you further information about this worthwhile opportunity to allow them to develop their musical abilities.

Thank you for your attention. We wish your child the very best with their music-making - no matter what direction they choose to follow.
